Richmond, Ind. - Indiana University Kokomo women's volleyball team spilt both matches Sunday to finish the Quaker Best Way Disposal Classic at Earlham College 2-2.  The Cougars won the first match against Wilmington College in three sets, but then lost in three sets to Franklin College.

IU Kokomo jumped out early to take a one set lead 25-13 against Wilmington College.  The Cougars continued to roll by capturing the next two sets 25-16 and 25-21 against the Quakers.  With that victory the Cougars improved to 2-1 for the tournament with one game left to play.

"This was a great team effort," said Coach Snoddy after the Wilmington College victory.

Leading the Cougars in kills were Shelby Spall (Kokomo, Western H.S.) and Carlee Davis (Medaryville/West Central H.S. [Ancilla College]) with 8 and Heather Tolson (Frankfort/Clinton Prairie H.S. [Kankakee C.C.]) with 9.  Lael Burrus (Denver/North Miami H.S.) had a great defensive effort for IU Kokomo with 20 digs.  Freshman Cortney Hanson (Winamac/Pioneer H.S.) and Heather Tolson (Frankfort/Clinton Prairie H.S. [Kankakee C.C.]) combined for 32 assists the match.

The second and final match of Earlham College Invitational paired the Cougars against Franklin College. The Cougars jumped out to early leads in the first two sets but could not hold on to claim the wins.  IU Kokomo battled hard but fell in three sets 23-25, 21-25, 14-25.

"We were disappointed that we didn't win a game from them since we jumped out to early leads in the first two," said Coach Snoddy. "We have to feel good that we ended up 2-2 for the weekend."

Sophomore Lael Burrus (Denver/North Miami H.S.) had another strong individual performance on the defensive end with 24 digs and setter Heather Tolson (Frankfort/Clinton Prairie H.S. [Kankakee C.C.]) had 8 kills.

Indiana University Kokomo women's volleyball team (3-12) hits the road Tuesday for a rematch against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Whiting, Ind.).  The Crimson Wave took the first meeting from the Cougars 3-1 at the Illinois Tech Invitational.  Tip off is set to begin at 8pm.
