
Chicago, Ill. -The first game on Saturday matched up Indiana University Kokomo with St. Thomas University from Miami Gardens, Florida. The Cougars lost to the Bobcats in three sets 19-25, 18-25, and 22-25.
Freshman Megan Riley (New Palstine, New Palstine H.S.) led IU Kokomo with 9 kills, Courtney Hanson had a team high with 13 assists and sophomore Lael Burrus (Denver/North Miami H.S.) on the defensive end had 11 digs.
"It was a good test to see where we are as a young program," said Coach Snoddy. "I was proud of the fact that we were able to stay competitive in each of the three sets against a very good program that has historically led their conference."
The final game of the Illinois Institute of Technology Kickoff Tournament for the Cougars against Mt. Vernon ended in a three set loss 12-25, 13-25, 14-25.
IU Kokomo freshmen Megan Riley (New Palstine, New Palstine H.S.) and Shelby Spall (Kokomo, Western H.S.) had 6 kills and 7 kills respectively. Freshman Courtney Hanson, from Pioneer High School, had 12 assists and sophomore Lael Burrus (Denver/North Miami H.S.) had 14 digs.
"They were 4-0 coming into the tournament and to face them at the end of the second day was a challenge and they really took it to us," said Coach Snoddy.
Cougars (1-4) return home Tuesday, August 28, at Maple Crest Middle school to play Purdue University Calumet at 7pm.
Indiana University Kokomo serves north central Indiana.
